WHO is your unsung hero?
Who goes out of their way to give you a helping hand?
Who spends hours of their spare time ensuring that a sporting group can run every week – or is committed to supporting a crucial service within our community?
Or who quietly cares for a neighbour?
We are seeking your nominations to reward the volunteers in our area as we launch North East Lincolnshire Volunteer Awards 2011.
Building on the success of last year's event, which saw 150 volunteers and supporters enjoying a celebratory awards evening at Grimsby Town Hall, we want your nominations now to ensure your unsung heroes are rewarded for their efforts.
The Grimsby Telegraph has once again teamed up with North East Lincolnshire Council and Grimsby's Volunteer Centre to help reach commendable volunteers in our area.
This year, we have nine categories to nominate in, with the overall winner crowned Volunteer Of The Year 2011. Their name will be added to the prestigious Diana, Princess of Wales roll of honour board at Grimsby Town Hall.
The Telegraph's deputy editor Michelle Hurst said: "This is one of our favourite campaigns of the year because it makes us all stop and think about how hard volunteers work in our community and what a difference they make.
"Our community can't go on without the many hundreds who support it voluntarily.
"To praise their tireless efforts, I encourage everyone to nominate anyone who helps our area. We have a diverse range of categories to make it suitable for everyone."
Emma Mathias, acting manager of the Volunteer Centre, said: "Last year was a huge success and we are hoping this year will be even bigger and better.
"We are really looking forward to working as a team again with North East Lincolnshire Council and the Grimsby Telegraph.
"There would be a big hole in society without volunteers and we need you to nominate people to recognise those making a difference.
"Volunteers gain social skills, career aspects and that 'good feeling' about putting something back into the community.
"I would urge anyone to volunteer it will bring you a brighter future all round.
"They are a huge part in our area underpinning work that paid staff do."
Volunteer Awards committee member Paul Wisken, Town Hall and Civic Manager, added: "It is nice for volunteers to be recognised in society because they do such a fantastic job.
"People should nominate individuals because it highlights the work they do.
"It is heart-warming to talk to those who are heroes in society because they don't necessarily look for or get recognition.
"I was very pleased the way last year turned out. The categories recognise a range of people."
