The Winter Planning Campaign has been working hard in North East Lincolnshire to make sure that if this winter involves a repeat of the extreme weather we experienced last year, the vulnerable and elderly people of North East Lincolnshire won't be so isolated.
The scheme will be launched tomorrow, Friday 7th October, at the Grimsby Minster (previously known as St. James' Church)from 10am - 12.30pm. There will be a raffle of a 'stock up, stay in' hamper containing daily essentials in case of being snowed in and a 'Name the Polar Bear' competition.
Last year's bad weather saw a nearly 80% rise in hospital admissions for falls, in addition to the usual consequences of snow such as cold/damp related illnesses, social isolation and damage to homes.
The scheme, which has been universally praised, has brought people together from over 20 different organisations, all working towards developing better support networks for the most at-risk members of our community.
The Bishop of Grimsby, the Rt Revd David Rossdale, said: “This is an excellent initiative which provides real support to the most vulnerable people in our community during a particular time of need.
“It enables us to work together as a community to be inclusive and caring for all.
“I fully endorse this campaign and hope that it will be well supported by people in every part of North East Lincolnshire.”
So remember, if the weather turns bad this winter, stock up and stay in.
