LINks groups and the Productive Care national QIPP (Quality Innovation, Productivity and Prevention) workstream have been working together to improve the quality of care for patients.
We have jointly developed a new publication for LINks members that provides valuable information about the Productive Ward (also known as the Releasing time to care) programme, the benefits that the programme is bringing to patient safety and a set of powerful actions that LINks members can take to ensure these benefits are happening in their local trusts.
This publication can be found here.

The Productive Ward can....
- Improve the quality of patient care.
- Improve patient experience.
- Increases the amount of time that staff have to spend with patients
- Empower patients to be part of their own care team.
University Hospitals Leicester NHS Trust reported a 23% increase in the amount of time available for direct patient care achieved through The Productive Ward.
Countess Mountbatten House at Southampton Universities Hospital NHS Trust used The Productive Ward to focus on reducing patient falls (achieving a 52% decrease), reducing harm events and the corresponding length of stay.
The Productive Care programme is delivered by the NHS Institute for Innovation and Improvements as one of the Department of Health’s QIPP workstreams.
