COAST, the local chlamydia screening programme for under
25’s, is joining the wave of patriotism sweeping the UK in the run up to the
Olympics by giving away “Olympic” themed pants.
In a bid to get young people talking about sexual health and
getting tested for chlamydia, specially commissioned union jack pants with the
theme “Get your game on” are being given to young people who request and return
a Freepost test kit via the COAST website. The pants are the latest in a
series of designer underwear aimed at getting young people to take a proactive
approach to their sexual health.
Paul Watson, Head of Young Peoples Services at Care Plus
Group, explained:
“The pee for pants initiative has gone down a storm with
young people in the past- it’s a fun way of getting sexual health on young
people’s agenda. Every time the pants are worn it should remind young people
that their sexual and reproductive health is really important - condom use,
choosing long acting reversible contraceptives and regular testing for STI’s
will ensure that young people have the reassurance that they are making the
right choices about sex.
The pants have been designed especially with the Olympics in
mind and are very limited in terms of numbers. Any young person who requests
and returns a Freepost test kit on the COAST website will be sent pants once
they have had their results. The COAST team will also be out and about at
various locations across Northern Lincolnshire, so access to testing has never
been easier.
Paul went on to say:
“Feedback from young people is really important to us and
young people constantly tell us they wish to have wider access to information
and testing and this initiative helps us do that. The COAST website can be
accessed at www.coastlovebug.com
Test kits (and pants) will be sent out in plain packaging so
that young people can be assured of a discreet and effective sexual health
service which they can request at a time of their choice.”
