IT'S Question Time …
Older people in North East Lincolnshire will get the chance to have their say at a BBC Question Time-style forum.
To celebrate Older People's Day, the volunteer group Eng-Age has organised an event for the elderly, with topics such as transport and health.
Action groups such as Link and Accord will voice their thoughts and opinions in front of a panel members such as Grimsby MP Austin Mitchell and Cleethorpes and Immingham MP Martin Vickers.
Deputy chair of Eng-Age, Jane Hyldon-King, said: "We formed for older people to have a voice and we thought this would be a fantastic opportunity to raise profiles of the elderly.
"We want to hear what matters to them because they are often forgotten about."
She said the idea was to find out how people felt their community could be improved, such as access to public transport and health services.
There are already 126 seats booked.
Ray Oxby, chairman of Eng-Age said: "We have had masses of support from agencies such as Friendship At Home and Safeguarding Adults.
"This is really helpful because we are a volunteer agency and we need all the support we can get from local groups.
"We are hoping the evening will be engaging for the over-50 generation.
"Hopefully, pressing issues will be discussed in the debate and afterwards, we will hopefully see some results."
The panel will include representatives from groups such as Age UK, Hope Street Clinic, Citizens' Advice Bureau and Communities Together.
Question Time takes place at Tukes Café in Brighowgate, Grimsby on Friday, September 30, from 6.30pm to 9pm.
Places are limited. To book, call Jane Hyldon-King on 01472 233627 or e-mail jaydeehk@hotmail.com
Eng-Age meets regularly at 10am on the first and third Wednesday of every month at the Grimsby Central Library.
